Earlier this fall, we examined the five states where marijuana legalization would appear before voters via ballot measures. This includes New Jersey, Montana, South Dakota, Arizona, and Mississippi.
Heading into the election, thirty-three states have legalized medical marijuana, and 11 have legalized recreational adult-use marijuana. In the last presidential election year (2016), marijuana legalization measures passed in eight out of nine states.
